RBM drain filter - Encasing Mats

The silting and clogging of drainage pipes can be reduced by using drainage filters. These are intended to retain the finest particles of a structurally stable soil only to the extent that the permeability of both the drainage filter and the surrounding soil is ensured. At the same time, the development of a natural filter body in the soil surrounding the drain is promoted. This can improve the hydraulic performance of the drain, which may also be the primary task of the drainage filter. The filter materials are installed loosely, in mat form, or as a sleeve around the drain.

The filter materials may be partially degradable if temporary strong clogging (primary silting) is expected due to unfavorable soil moisture conditions, which often occurs immediately after installation.

The filter materials should not be degradable if clogging tendencies caused by unfavorable soil properties (secondary silting) are to be expected.

For plastic drainage pipes, the width of the openings for water inflow can be increased when using a drainage filter.
